Hemp Tea: Why You Should Drink It

hemp tea

The Hemp plant is an incredibly versatile and healing herb, the entire plant can be eaten, cooked, brewed, or extracted – from roots to flower, leaf, and seed. We have already written about the CBD oil, hemp seeds, and juiced cannabis, now, lets have a look at hemp tea.

Let’s take a look at hemp tea

Tea is an ancient drink originating from Asia.  Traditionally it is prepared with tea leaves, however, steeped hemp leaves can do the job just as well.

Hemp tea has a greenish color which is caused by plants growing mature longer and by harvesting at the time when the CBD content is at its highest level.

Don’t worry about THC (the cannabis compound getting you high) because hemp contains no more than 0.2 %.  At this small concentration, you will not feel any kind of  “high” after consuming the tea.hemp tea

Is there CBD in Hemp tea?

Hemp teas made from the finest flowers and trim from hemp plants are rich in antioxidants and cannabidiol (CBD).

CBD or cannabidiol is one of the most prevalent cannabinoids found in the trichomes of the female cannabis plant and hemp. It is non-psychoactive, non-toxic and doesn’t have side effects. Because CBD is no water soluble, it’s recommended to drink hemp tea with a dash of fat as milk. Coconut oil or a small piece of regular butter will work too.

How to prepare the hemp tea?

Preparation of hemp tea is very similar to any other tea. Take 1 teaspoon of dry hemp leaves per cup and pour hot water over it. Let it steep (soak in water) between 2 and 5 minutes, depending on how strong you want the tea.
Hemp tea has a very pleasant taste, like a herbal tea but as with any other tea, you can modify it to taste by sweetening it, adding milk or a squeeze of lemon.

Hemp tea… Just a tea?

What is hemp tea after all? Seedless hemp buds that have been ground. Does it give you ideas? yes! You can also smoke your hemp tea! Ideal to replace tobacco in joints, hemp buds have an earthy taste that will please more than one.

It is important to remember that as hemp tea, hemp buds don’t contain any THC. You won’t get “high” from smoking hemp.  Hemp produces nearly only the latter cannabinoid: CBD (both hemp and CBD are legal), with very minimal trace levels of THC.

Just bought some hemp BUDS off eBay! Can’t wait to try some real hemp tea. Here’s my method of preparation:

    Crush buds
Add melted butter or whole fat milk to buds in a large tea glass
Boil bowl of water for 7 minutes in microwave
Pour water on buds in tea glass
    Cover with a lid
    Steep for 25 minutes

(While it might be preferable to actually boil the plant matter, I can’t risk smelling up the house that way so I’m just steeping the buds in extremely hot/boiling water. The butter or milk is to extract the cannabinoids, as cannabis requires a fatty material to release the active goodies).

I have a tea and have seeds in it should i remove them? Can the seeds be planted and grown, will i get weed strains from it or more tea plants?

    1. Alana says:

Hey Paul, you can leave the seed in there if you like! As they’re dried you probably won’t get anything to grow out of it but if you did get your hands on some live ones you may get a nice hemp plant!
